Hi! I purchased Avast IS for 3 PCs on May 2015, it automatically renewed on May 2016.
Now, one of the PCs died and was replaced. I tried to install the IS from web and execute the license.avastlic I received on 2015 with no success. What are the correct steps to use the remaining protection on the new PC?. Thank you!
First I would suggest that you logon to your my.avast.com account and delete the device (the PC that has died), that should allow you to assign that license to the new system when you install it and connect it to your account.
Direct download location for the full off-line installation http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_offline.exe.
DavidR, thank you for your answer! I downloadd the installer, but its name is “premier antivirus”, not “internet security”.
Other issue: I go to my.avast.com and the only computer shown is the one from which the purchase had been done…
Ok, please confirm if the downloaded .exe is what I need and I’ll go ahead and see if it works.
Sorry, I can’t have been paying attention when I was capturing the link.
- the correct one being http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_offline.exe for AIS.
You should be able to install on the new system and connect it to your my.avast.com account using the same email and password.
It isn’t so much showing it as the the purchase was done from, but the email address used for the purchase. But you should be able to move the license from one to the other, be that just assigning it to the new installation or deleting the old PC device.
Sorry I can’t be more detailed as I use avast free and don’t any info on my.avast.com account relating to licenses.
Eddy and DavidR, thank you for the hints.
In a nutshell: AIS is now running correctly on the new PC. I am a happy man again!
If you or some Avast authority got spare time to read on, this is how it DIDN’T work:
I uninstalled Avast Anti Virus free, ran the AIS offline installer, uninstalled MS Security Essentials as asked, and finally found two windows: one asked for the license.avastlic, I pointed to its location, but it said it contains no valid license. The other window takes me to the store. So I had no AIS working yet.
The .avastlic was dated May 26, 2015. I think I read somewhere the license file is good for 14 months, If this is true then it may be useless some time after an automatic renewal.
What DID work was to go to the my.avast.com mentioned by DavidR, click on “Protect another device”, and then I got a “customized for me” installer: when run on the new PC it said it would be linked to my Avast account. And voilà!
I humbly suggest this procedure (what to do if a protected PC crashes) be added to the Avast FAQ.
Thank you again for your support!
You’re welcome.
Eddy and I are avast users like yourself, but we also welcome feed back on how the problem was resolved as it could well help others.
As far as I’m aware the license isn’t good for 14 months, only twelve. Some time ago you could use the 60 day trial and then purchase a years license. Now I believe if you sign up for the 60 day trial you complete a payment instruction, at the end of the 60 days trial (unless you have cancelled the trial and instruction) the payment would be processed.
