purity trojan and bloodhound virus

Why do I havae to run Avast so many times…it says there is the purity trojan, but it keeps showing up…?

Also the computer (not avast) indicated the bloodhound virus…can avast get rid of this…? If not, how do I get rid of it?
Thanks,
m4jj

What is the infected file? What do you click when you get this message? What OS are you running?

Hi m4jj,

Read carefully through this thread, and there you have some clues to what has happened to your machine, because of an irritating rogue spyware scanning program, trying to lure you to pay for something you do not need. Scaring you works apparently , read here, and how to protect against this scumware in the future, it is all here:

Hi, Thanks for your message. It seems I should have something like ewido to get rid of all this? Ewido is quite expensive which I can not afford right now. How webroot spysweeper?..it is a little cheaper…but is there any other that is free? I run adaware and spybot (OS is windows xp) I am trying now to run the throughscan of avast in safe mode (deleting all) after having turned off the system restore. It is still running. I am wondering if something is wrong as the desktop icons and task bar are no longer showing in safe mode as they were the first few hours it was running…?

Sorry I forgot… the file is : “win32:purityscan-N {trj}” When it came up this time I deleted it clicking on “delete all” (hoping to save myself from cheking the computer so much for other viruses or trojans)
Thanks!

The best option is always send all to Chest. If you committe any mistake or if they are false alarms, well, you can restore the files back

There is free version of Ewido, download the trial version use it unrestricted for the 14 day trial and after that, you lose the resident aspect and it reverts to the free version. Then you use it as an on-demand scanner as I do. I download any signature updates and then run a scan once a week as a regular part of my system maintenance.

Thanks! I’ll try that!

P.S. Does anyone know is Avast takes care of any of the bloodhound viruses? One review said Norton was the best for that…?

There are no bloodhound viruses. “Bloodhound” is a Symantec name for various heuristic detections.

Hi m4jj,

Igor is right there, there are no bloodhound viruses. They do not exist, only in the mind of those that like to scare you into downloading and using (and paying for) a roque anti-virus scanner. Do not fall into their hands. Pop-ups come from an unpatched version of IE or through an exploit. Update your OS, all your software, use a fully patched and upgraded Internet Explorer browser or use the latest version of an alternate browser like Firefox or Opera.
