PUSH updates not working in Outlook 2007

Hello,

I’ve recently updated to avast! Pro (version 4.8.1296), and decided to try the PUSH updates function (I’ve activated the option in the settings), but it doesn’t seems to work. I am using Outlook 2007 with gmail account on Windows Vista SP1 x64. I am receiving the iAVS email, but just this the program does not react and doesn’t update the VPS. :-\

Also I’ve experienced some strange crashes of Outlook, witch I think are connected to the avast Outlook plug-in - when I try to start the program with the plug-in ON the program loads and then crash, when I disable the plug-in the program works without a problem, after that I enable the plug-in and everything works fine - but this is not happening always, just randomly. :-\

What does the bottom of the iAVS e-mail show?
Anything in avast! Log?

Any dumps or “Send to Microsoft” windows, with links to dump files and possible addresses where it crashed?

Well, here’s the mail from the last update:

New iAVS update (VPS 81215-1) for avast! program has been released recently. Related information could be also found on our web site. Note: This is a standard update

I cannot find any error logs about this in the log. :-\

I think that the last time I clicked ot Send To MS link. I will try to reproduce the crash and will report again.

It needs UAC elevation for avast.setup or setup.ovr to update. I got these warnings using push updates.
How big is your Outlook.pst file?

So you are saying that when you receive the iAVS push e-mail, you get a UAC elevation request? What process does it show?

XMAS, is there anything in selfdef.log that might be related?

The file is about 7,5MB

I am not getting such a request.

The log is full with the folowing error:

The first two questions were actually more for Tech

So, can you try disabling avast! self-defense to see if it helps (regarding the PUSH updates)?
Thanks.

That’s the problem… Is your avast Update (Basic) > Details > Push updates enabled?

Yes, few minutes ago it happened on Vista Business 32bits and Outlook 2007.
The process starting the update is setup.ovr.

Yes, that’s the first thing I checked

I figured it out, but just decided to answer ::slight_smile:

OK, but I’ll have to wait till the next VPS update to see if it helps, I’ll report here the results

So here’s and the update on the situation:

I hadn’t have any crashes with outlook so far.

But the situation with the updates is different.

After today update I’ve got the same error message in the bottom of the mail.

Only this time the VPS was updated before Outlook started, so the VPS was up to date when the mail was received, but the error message was there. (the Self Defense module was disabled) :-\

My self defense module was always on.

XMAS, are you logged on as an administrator, or as a restricted user?

I am logged as administrator.

Me too, if it helps Igor.
What about the questions you have done me? You seemed surprised…

Well… I’m surprised because I find it rather “strange” to request UAC pop-up when an iAVS e-mail arrives - but I use neither Vista nor MS Outlook, so I don’t know.
There seems to be a problem on a restrited-user account we were able to simulate (behaves like XMAS describes) - but not for an administrator.

Anyway, the problems should be fixed in the next build.

OK, I’ll be waiting for the next update ;D

Here a screenshot…
