Push Updates

Hi,

I am currently testing avast! Pro. I would like to know how to use Push Updates.

Thanks,

justin1278

Open the Update tab of settings.
Choose Details.
Click on the Registration link.
In the webpage, choose Register and add your email there.
Back to avast settings, click on ‘Enable’ and ‘Add information about the performed action’.
Be sure your Internet Mail provider is running.
Wait for the next push update

Hi,

Luckily I am already subscribed to iAvs e-mail. So I didn’t need to make any changes!

Welcome to the ipush updates ;D

Only for 60 days because I cannot purchase avast! pro because I cannot purchase anything online. That is why I posted a request at the topic below.

Why are avast! updates set to expire April 1, 2013 but the program May 19, 2006? Makes no sense to me.

May 19, 2006 … maybe because that is when your 60-day trial program ends?

Edit:

I guess my point is … if the trial program ends before the updates, what does it matter? You have updates good until long after the program expires.

But, maybe I am missing something. ???

April 1, 2013 makes no sense for me too… ??? ::slight_smile:

What does it mean that the program will expire. What happens when it expires? As you can tell it will let me get updates until 2013 but what happens when the program itself expires?

It can’t be updated.
In theory, only virus database could be updated from that time.

hmmm that is still strange. Why would it give me 60 days for the trial but let me update for 7 years??? Even if nothing happens after the 60 days and the program still functions perfectly (unlikely but I really don’t know what will happen now) I would still not keep it without a license because I would not steal from Alwil software.

If you are only testing, then of course it will expire. You even say this yourself …

;)

You can not update for 7 years because the program will expire in 60 days … the date in the future is irrelevant. After 60 days, I am sure the Pro trial will revert to Home unless you have bought a Pro license/registration.

I think it is to do with the fact that it is a Pro/Timed Trial version as the home Program expiration is ‘never’ but updates do expire and you have to re-register. When you purchase a new Pro license, you get the updates also.

However, as Tech said “April 1, 2013 makes no sense for me too…” there is definitely something wrong with that.

The problem may be that the system date has somehow been changed and avast has an anti-piracy check if the system date changes then I think you end up with 7 days not 60.

You might want to see what avast authorised distributors are in the USA you might be able to purchase another way through one of them.

No, the Pro features will be disabled and the program will be downgraded to Home version.

No, I changed my system date. The program would not open. It just asked for a license key. But regardless I said if it were to happen.

Well, there is the answer. You have changed the system date … and now, you probably only have a 7-day trial as David stated above. :frowning:

As written before, there is an antipiracy feature to avoid using the trial time more than 60 days, what is much more than enough to evaluate the program. Very few (none) companies give such a trial period.

What do you mean?
Did you buy avast and the key get corrupted because of the system time was rolled back?
When did you roll back? Before or after installing avast?
If you uninstall avast (Control Panel), use Avast uninstall feature, boot, install again and use the key, won’t it work?

Ok. After I changed the system date, to see what would happen I set it back and I am back at where I left off. It did not subtract any days from my trial. At the moment I have 58 days.

Ok,

Just for testing I rolled my system date back to 2005. When I did this and started avast! the trial count down went up to 423 days. So it would appear Alwil’s antipiracy feature is easy to get through. I had even restarted my system with the date changed up to November 2006. It said avast! had expired. I changed the date back and rebooted now I am back to my 60 day trial which I have 58 days left. Because of my tests I could just keep the date set way back and have avast! pro for free. But like I said before I will NEVER steal from Alwil.

It simply isn’t worth trying this as it could invalidate your trial and reduce it as we have mentioned.

I’m sure it isn’t that easy to circumvent the process there are other checks that can leave you unable to get VPS/Program updates as was reported heavily in the forums when it was introduced. People couldn’t get updates and they complained on investigation it was found some of those were using the pro version with generated or hacked registrations.
