Putting apps "to sleep" on slow computer

Hello there,

My relatively new HP laptop (hp 17-by0002ca) seems slow – much slower than the old one that I let go just recently. Not sure what the problem is, but Avast has suggested “putting to sleep” 23 apps, calling them unnecessary. Most of them really are, but I do use some of them. So I have two questions. First of all, what does it mean to “put apps to sleep?” I assume it’s not uninstall, so what is the practical consequence of doing that? Second, since I do use 3-4 of those apps, how do I separate them? There is no option for choosing the app to be “put to sleep.” I wonder if someone could help.

And if anyone has any thoughts why this laptop is slow (both online and just on non-internet programs), I would love to hear some theories. It’s less than a year old, so still under warranty.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi, provide details and a screenshot.

Sounds like part of Avast Cleanup letting you know that you have programs that start when your computer starts that aren’t needed
at startup. “Putting them to Sleep” simply means not allowing them to auto start when the system starts.
If you need the program you’ll have to start it manually.
I don’t use Avast Cleanup so this is only an educated guess on my part.
Screenshots and more details would help.
