Puzzling Boot Scan Report

Hi All,
I hadn’t done a scan for awhile so did a boot scan. This caught quite a few viruses but also produced some puzzling reports. I would appreciate any help on understanding them and deciding what to do.

Several lines like
File C:\Program Files\Avast\Data\moved\jar.jar-fcdb0fa-2d85102c.zip.vir\Counter.class is infected by VBS:Malware [Gen], Moved to chest
the chest files are quite close to these \moved\ files but what were the \moved\ files doing in Avast?

One line
File C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\MODHELP.DLL Error 42003 {Internal program error.}
Is this saying that avast crashed on this file?

Several files like
File C:\WINDOWS\I386\FTP.EX_ Error 0xC000003E {Data Error}
I vaguely recall seeing something like this before. Are they low level I/O errors?

Rgds
Bob

Hi BobL,

Previous versions of avast! just moved malware files during a boot time scan to render them inactive. avast! now puts malware into the chest during a boot time scan.

the \moved directory was therefore created by avast! during a previous scan.

I suggest you do a forum search for the error messages- something is bound to come up.

Strange… what if you run an ordinary scan (from Windows GUI) - do the same errors occur?
Maybe you can try to run a disk check, including a surface test…

Hi sorry for delay
disk scan showed no errors
ordinary virus scan did not detect same files
!?

Are you logged as an Administrator when you run this scan?
