Quarantine files

Hello guys,
I have a question regarding the results on the scan.
I have scanned a computer for viruses and avast found some virused files, after the results were shown I pressed “Move to quarantine”. I have received a message telling that some of them can be important for the system to run. Anyway, I pressed move, maybe in a hurry or just thought they are not vital.
At the next boot the system (Win XP SP3) couldn’t start (Saving parameters …). I realized that it is because of the missing files, which were moved to quarantine.
It is impossible also to start in Safe mode.

Unfortunately I didn’t note and don’t remember the original file names and paths of the files.
My question is if I can find in any file were is the information about the files moved to the quarantine or about the results of the (last) scan, because I plan to browse using another bootable unit (live USB or CD).

Thank you in advance

Lets have a look see with OTL this will require a CD

Can you remember the file names ?

Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing

[*]Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
[]Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
[*]Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
[*]Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD
[*]Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
[*]As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads
[*]Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
[
]Insert the flash drive with FRST on it
[]Locate the flash drive and run FSRT
[
]The tool will start to run.

[*]When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Thanks a lot for for your reply.
That’s the point, that I didnot note or remember the file names and paths, just approximately.
I have read the instructions, have understood, and will try it tomorrow, and will write about it.

Thank you very much for your support

Not a problem ;D

Hello guys.
I am terribly sorry for all this fuss, but decided just to reinstall the OS on the computer. Copied all the needed documents to other partition, of course.
It seems more viable. (At first wanted not to “touch” the OS, it’s not my home comp, that’s why)
Thank you for all your great support and wish you good luck

Not a problem, it may be worth keeping OTLPE and FRST on a disc as a fallback if you ever need it ;D

Thanks, it could be useful
