Quarantined Files - disposal of

To check out a file that has been quarantined by Avast we are advised to set up a folder named ‘Suspect’ and extract a copy of the file from the quarantined section into that folder and then send said file to Virus total to be scanned.

If it is confirmed that the file in question is not one you want on your PC what then do you do with the copy placed in the Suspect folder. Is it OK to just delete it?

Sorry if this is a dumb question I just don’t want to make a mistake and perhaps let something loose on my PC which I shouldn’t.

Yes, it is as simple as that.
Just delete it.

there is also no rush to delete anything from quarantine, so you may let the files stay there fore a couple of weeks before you delete…just to be sure all is OK

If you leave file(s) in the chest for a couple of weeks you can then right click and select re-scan.

Thanks very much all for your replies. Between you I have been given a comprehensive answer to my question. Very helpful.

Thanks again.

You’re welcome!
