I’m using 4.8 Pro, and I’ve tried using the “auto update every ___ mins” option, but no matter how many mins I set it to, it still updates everytime I boot up. I’ll enter 2880 minutes (update every 2 days), but it updates on the very next boot. Bottom line is, I’d like to know if theres any way for Avast to auto update my VDB every 2 days instead of every day? Thanks ;D
Welcome quintas
It is best to leave the update interval alone as by default it is set to check at boot up and every 4 hours.
The #1 rated anti virus application is Kaspersky and it updates many times per day due to the prolific malware purveyors on today’s Internet.
It can be set to update without your knowlege in its settings but I prefer to see the update happen and know that my system is protected by one of the best anti virus applications avaliable. 8)
avast always checks for update at startup, if you then don`t turn of your computer it will use the settings you have put in

If your Internet connection is persistent, the updates are performed completely automatically in fixed time intervals. If you connect to the Internet only occasionally, avast! watches your connection and tries to perform the update when you are online.

???
It’s there by design (i.e., check on each boot). It’s there for security reasons and I think it should remain this way.
Alright, so judging by the three responses, I’m sure its not a good idea to change the “update on boot-up” default. But my darn machine is ancient and so Super slow. Waiting for an update to complete every morning before I can start doing anything at all is like watching grass grow while getting a tooth pulled. I guess I’ll live with it though, because this is definetly the best AV program I have ever used, and to quote another post I’ve read here: “Since I started using Avast Pro, I’ve forgotten what a virus looks like”
You need to edit (using notepad) the [InetWD] section of the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\avast4.ini file and add the following line (depending on your connection type):
Broadband connections, add this line:
AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds=120 and
AssumeAlwaysConnected=1 if not present (or edit AssumeAlwaysConnected=0 to AssumeAlwaysConnected=1)
[InetWD] AssumeAlwaysConnected=1 AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds=120When complete save the changes, avast's self-defence module will ask for confirmation, etc. answer Yes.
The figure is seconds and the above equates to two minutes, you could try that and adjust upwards if required, 180, 240, etc. you could try 600 that should allow even your ancient system to conclude its boot routines, then it would chevery X minites depending on what you set it to.
