question about automatic updates

I have XP home and have broadband. My computer is not permanently connected to the internet. But I have to sign in, to activate my internet connection.

In the update section in settings, both iAVS and programme are set to automatic

I receive the virus data base updates automatically without any problems.

But I don`t seem to get the programme updates automatically, i have to do it manually. For example, i had to manually install the new beta version.

What can i do in order to receive the programme updates automatically?

Beta versions are never automaticly installed.
It it the users choice if he wants to participate in beta testing or not.
Regular program updates are automaticly downloaded and installed.
(if you have that enabled in the settings ofcourse)
