Hi, not too long ago I started using Avast free anti-virus as a replacement for Norton on my Windows XP SP3 desktop and I was thinking of upgrading from Avast free to Avast Internet Security. My current security setup on XP is Avast free anti-virus, PC Tools Firewall Plus, and the free versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware. Would I be much more secure if I uninstalled PC Tools Firewall Plus and upgraded to Avast Internet Security? I use XP a lot so I’d like it to be as virus free as possible.
Well, you would get sandboxing on-demand, and SafeZone (another virtual feature), moving to AIS.
I can’t say what would be different in regards to the firewall aspect of it since I’ve never used PC Tools.
Apart from that, moving to a suite instead of separate security components, you get added stabilty/less hassle.
+1
I never had a firewall issue with AIS.
AIS is worth paying for. Also, good companies should be supported.
+2.
Hi,
We never faced an issue with avast! Firewall. We also recommend to remove any one of the Antimalwares, MBAM or SuperAnti Spyware. Because both will do the same work.
Have a wonderful day. Good Karma!
Actually both of those two programs will sometimes detect something the other wont which is an added securiy benifit and having both versions on the same system shouldn’t be an issue, especially since there also the free versions.
Correct. I use MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware. They don’t run all the time, but I do use them for extra scanning and detection. I would never not have MBAM. I’ve never had an issue with avast! and those mentioned. MBAM in some ways looks for different things in some respects, so I would use it.
Thanks for all of the replies!
After seeing all of your comments and and doing a bit of research Avast Internet Security is just what I need on my desktop. I was concerned about AIS’s firewall at first but it sounds like it should do just fine. If Avast Internet Security does well on my XP desktop then I will probably get rid of the resource hog that is Norton Internet Security and replace it with AIS on my Windows 7 laptop.
Sure, we are glad to help.
Any other questions, feel free to come back and ask.
