  2. Where does the Avast Nitro Update install itself? Is it part of the Avast folder or is it separate?

It installs in the same place as the previous version.

On the Avast homepage, does clicking on ‘Home’ install the full Avast software or just the Nitro Update? The Avast homepage is misleading.

Avast Nitro Update is simply a new name for the Avast Antivirus program.

If that’s what you’re currently using, yes. Or what ever paid version you may have.
Update, updates your current version.
