I’m a new user of Avast and have a question for you.
I’ve scanned with Avast today and included archived files in the scan. After the scan finished, I looked at the log. The log said that 2438 files were archived and password protected and could not be scanned.
Is this a large number of files that have been archived and why would they be password protected? I haven’t password protected any files that I can think of.
Any information you could tell me about this is greatly appreciated.
Hi MaggieB,
It’s radicalb21. First let me welcome you to the forum. Anyone and everyone will try and help. Are you running type of spyware or adaware program? What other type of security software are you running? If you could it would be helpful to post a screenshot of the log.
I am using Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware,
Avast for A/V. I have Zone Alarm free version for
firewall. I also have CW Shredder and Hijack This.
I also have Spyware Blaster.
I tried to locate the log file that you asked for. I’m sorry to say that I could not locate it. I looked in Avast and in the log viewer and couldn’t see anything. I also looked in “My Computer” in Program Files, then Avast but couldn’t locate a log file. If you can tell me the location of this log file, I will be glad to provide it.
It is, however, quite large. Otherwise, I could
run Avast tomorrow morning and post a new log
tomorrow.
Since I don’t really have too much knowledge of
Avast yet, I was just curious about the large number of archived files and why they would be password protected.
Hi MaggieB,
Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you. I know in Spybot Search & Destroy version 1.2 that certain files were password protected I am unsure about if that is the case in version 1.3 . Just to be safe open up avast antivirus click the menu button choose settings and when the next window comes up select report file. Put a checkmark in create report file use the standard program file and make sure the following items are checked task start, task stop, hard errors, skipped files, and infected files. Leave the type of file as a text file. Then click ok and run the scan again with the scan archive files checked and set it to through scan. Then you can hopefully attach that file to your next post. If the file is over 150 kb in size you can send it to the following email address which is posted in my profile and I’ll try and help you more.
me…too. non of my Arch’s are being scanned. the shield needs some work, I keep getting a voice saying there is a virus on your computer, shouldn’t it be stoping the virus from getting on my computer.
