Question about DATA\Avast4.mdb

Hi,

In Windows Task Manager an instance of svchost.exe (with a PID number of 956) is continuously accessing my hard drive at a frequency of just under once per second.

With the help I got on a related post I’ve used tasklist.exe to
establish that svchost.exe (PID 956) has the following components:

AudioSrv, BITS, Browser, CryptSvc, Dhcp,
ERSvc, EventSystem, helpsvc, lanmanserver,
lanmanworkstation, Netman, Nla, RasMan,
Schedule, seclogon, SENS, SharedAccess,
ShellHWDetection, srservice, TapiSrv,
Themes, TrkWks, W32Time, winmgmt, wscsvc,
wuauserv, WZCSVC

Ashserve.exe is accessing the drive at the same time (I presume svchost is triggering it) and I’ve used a program called filemon which gives the following info:

08:11:55 ASHSERV.EXE:1588 READ C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\Avast4.mdb SUCCESS Offset: 3584 Length: 512

There are lots and lots of these entries in filemon for ashserve and they are all identical. Does this mean anything and could someone tell me what Avast4.mdb is please?

A rather simplified answer:
The .mdb file extension indicates a database file, avast4.mbd is the database file that avast uses to store information, etc. so it is likely to have a lot of activity.
