question about google imap

I keep getting an Avast popup about ssl with gmail.
screen shot attached.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do?
Using Windows 7, free Avast 5 and Thunderbird for email.
Thanks

Hi,

no problem, just replace the IMAP port, originally set to 993, by 143 and no ssl. Same for SMTP, replace 465 by 587 and no ssl. If it’s already 587 there, leave it but just remove the “starttls” setting, so just no ssl. This will allow the mail scanner to check your mails, while avast proxy will do the ssl job between your computer and Gmail servers.

thanks for the help. ;D

Now my Gmail stopped receiving after I changed ports-

Attachment does gmail imap for me with TB. Should be same as Logos-works for both of us.

well the ports are set right and no gmail is showing up under mail shields.
How do I get Avast to recognize the gmail imap again?
I went in and added them under gmail.com

See how your ssl tab under mailshield compares to the attachment. What other security software are you using now? What was your previous AV? Did you get something like Norton or McAfee with your computer and remove it through the normal add/replace programs dialog? A lot of problems are caused by the residual left by previous security software, and they often publish special removal tools to clean it up.

Should it be 993 or 143?

Should be 993 here. This is where Avast! translates your unencrypted ports to the proper SSL/TLS ports.

see attached pic of current settings
I have had free avast right along-

I still can’t receive any gmail???

See Reply #6-does any of that apply to you?

No, I did a fresh windows 7 install.
All was fine until I had that popup from avast and I changed the port settings.
I had avast free 4.8 and removed it before installing the free 5 avast.

I put my ports back to original settings and my gmail is working fine now???
Is there a way to disable avast scanning gmail imap and have it continue scanning my pop email?

Any body?
My gmail is back to working with original port settings.
