Question about Network Shield

I have been running Avast for about 1-2 months. I have always had Network Shield running as a provider. However I have never seen the scanned count be anything other than zero (0). In the settings I have show warning messages and logging checked. Also have never seen anything in the last attacks section. I have the home edition running 4.8.1229 on Windows XP SP3 using Verizon FiOS for internet access. Using the free version of Comodo firewall without Defense Plus activated or installed. Any idea why the scanned count remains at zero?

Thats normal for now. This will however change with the next version of avast! that is coming very soon.

OK, thank you. Will wait for the next version.

A week or so it’ll be out…

Thanks for the update, I will look for it. I have automatic updates turned on, will it come in that way or will it require a separate download?

Just wanted to note that despite the fact the scanned count in Network Shield remains at zero it actually does something :stuck_out_tongue:

It looks into the packets looking for traces of known (well, several dozens selected) network worms. Since Network Shield examines every packet on the selected list of ports, but does not necessary scans the whole contents of every packet, it’s hard to determine what we should consider as one scanned unit. It remains at zero until the next version - when it will contain the number of scanned URLs. (what again does not mean, that it will stop blocking network worms).

It won’t require a separate download. But, remember that the program updates are released but to avoid excessive load on the servers the auto update check happens randomically every 7 days and it’s not checking every time you connect to the Internet as with the iAVS checks. Every avast installation has a unique, randomly generated GUID (“general unique identifier”) associated with it (it is generated during installation). This ID is random, but fixed. They use this value to determine when the updater pops up on YOUR machine, i.e., the program already knows that the update is there, but it won’t tell you until it’s your turn. You have to allow the update, i.e., it’s not a forced and automatic update.

Thank you all for the info. Will wait my turn for the update.
