Hi all,
I’ve just installed Avast on my laptop with vista and my PC with XP. The laptop was fine but my older Comp with XP has shown up all kinds of things in the first scan…so much for AVG !!
A few malware virus alerts (about 6) I’ve put in the chest, but I also have these other things…I dont know what to do about.
There are 2 unable to scan GZIP is corrupted one in Temp internet files and one in program files.
Also in Temporary internet folders I have an unable to scan the file is a decompression bomb.
The other thing is that there is a lot of archived password protected stuff all of which say they are Spybot Search and Destroy Recovery…
What do I do with all these things …and how do I recall the results box back up to access them again?
Thanks in advance for any help…It’s much appreciated…
Maybe this is why my comp is running like a snail !!!
There is nothing to worry about files that can’t be scanned,
Corrupted Archive file, this could simply mean that avast is unable to unpack it to scan the contents of the archive and assuming it is because it is corrupt. Even if it were corrupt there is nothing that a user can do to resolve any corruption, short of replacing the file. This I wouldn’t recommend (especially if this is for archives in the \System Volume Information folder, part of the system restore function) unless you are getting problems relating to that file outside of the avast scan.
Decompression Bomb, a file that is highly compressed, which could be very large when decompressed. This used to be a tactic long ago to swamp the system, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=8943.msg73950#msg73950
See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35347.msg297170#msg297170 this topic for more information on why files can’t be scanned.
