How often does avast! update itself during one day 
And what are times between updates ?

normal update release is two times a day…more if needed and some days none.

avast will look for updates shortly after computer start…and download if there are any
if the computer stay on it will check every 240min (default) and download if any
there s now also a stream update in latest version so important updates can be pushed out quick
There is no fixed limit, avast checks for updates shortly after boot (if an internet connection is present), it then checks periodically during the day (that period can be lowered to check every 120 minutes, avastUI, Settings, Updates, Details).
These are the checks, if an update is available then it will be downloaded, on average there are about two updates per day, I have seen as many as 5 updates in a day.
That is only one part of the update process as from avast 7 streaming updates are also available, these are more urgent virus definition updates or corrections that shouldn’t wait until the next regular update. These streaming updated happen in the background automatically, you have to have the virus definitions set to Auto (default setting) for this to happen.
How often are streaming updates? Does the last update time stamp change with streaming updates?
no the last update time stamp doesnt change what does change is the last streaming update recieved time info in UI… u dont use avast??
Because if u did u would know that
- How long is a piece of string, there is no answer to that question either until you see the piece of string.
The same is true of the streaming updates there is no defined number as it depends on new detections/corrections considered urgent that they should be pushed out rather than wait for the regular update.
- You can check this for yourself (if you have avast) by checking in the defs sub-folder, it is unique just as the other defs sub-folders are. The streaming update folders get cleared when the next regular update happens as those updates are included in the next regular virus definitions auto update.

I puchased a new HP win 7 x64 Dual Core computer one week ago and installed free Avast. Each time it updates, notice and sound comes up 2 times one right after the other. It never did this on my XP computer.
