Hi there,
Can anyone answer my question, I have been removing programs from my computer and just noticed that Avast has a size of 30,081.00Mb.
Is this normal?
If not how do I rectify this situation?.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Bob
Well I don’t know where you arrive at this figure, which is only a little over 30MB everything before the , comma being MB and everything after the comma being KB and after the , period hundredths of a KB.
Avasts download file is bigger than that a little over 40MB and the installation would be considerably larger as the installation file is highly compressed.
Thanks for the reply,
I read it as 30000.00MB everything else is listed the same way and even Microsft programs are 411mb.
I still think there is an anomaly there.
Cheers
Bob
But where are you getting this figure from (windows explorer, add remove programs, etc.) as 30GB is huge ?.
What is your OS ?
Check the avast5 folders for large files and report their size (these are XP locations they will differ for other OSes):
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\log
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\report
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5
If it is actually 30GB you might have all the options checked in creating the log file. So every file scanned gets added as a line item to the log. You may want to check your log file options if that is the true size. Depending on how often your scans are, you have the same options set on your resident scans and how long it has been since you formatted last. Your log file could be HUGE! Maybe millions of lines of text long, many months of constant scanning may result in that. I wouldn’t open the log file if it is that huge to browse through it. Just delete it really, could lock your system up trying to open it. Hehe what fun… yikes :x
I actually suspect some very big logs/reports if the OP have made any changes to the default report settings, changing any to debug level would get very big very quickly if you don’t also reduce the maximum size, etc.
This is why I asked the OP (abnerlaw) to check for large file.
Edit: added image of my settings.
Indeed I would want to see a screens of the properties windows of the directories you advised. That would make me smile to see 20GB+ log files :D. It makes me laugh just thinking about it… not in a bad way just kind of like wow that’s cool!
