My scan reads ‘0’ infected files. A list of files which can’t be scanned overlays the main page.
My OS is XP. Default browser is Firefox. I browse fr/ a an account without administrative privileges. The files not scanned are fr/ Firefox temp folder in the administrative account. I’m an individual user.
What are the reasons to leave these files in place or delete them?
Out of curiosity, what are likely reasons that the files aren’t scanned?
Many thanks for any help!
PS: A kvetch: why isn’t this explained in the HELP tab?
If you as a limited user run a scan I believe windows would block access to administrator areas.
For the same reason I doubt windows would allow you to do anything with them either.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35347.msg297170#msg297170 this topic for more information on why files can’t be scanned.
You need to boot in the admin account to schedule a boot time scanning or to run a full avast scanning. Then that files will be scanned also
Thanks for the replies. I run full scans. I ran a scan in the Administrative Account. Still couldn’t scan the same 27 files. Doesn’t sound like any major threat. Since I’m switching to Linux sometime in the near future, I’ll be content w/ the status quo.
Thanks again!
You don’t say why they can’t be scanned and avast tells you that in the report it displays, this is crucial to say if it is a legitimate reason.
