Question re "unable to scan" results

Hi,
I have XPsp2 and Avast Free 4.8.1296 installed with the latest definitions (1-3-09). This has happened before, but I would like to know what this means. I ran a scan earlier today from a limited user account. The scan is set at Standard with test archives checked. I set it to scan the C drive. The result showed no viruses, but it had this:

Result: unable to scan 202 items

These 202 lines comprised of C\Utilities\Q.T.Lite 1.70 and C\Utilities\Real Alternative 1.82. I right-clicked on one item and it said

"Results processing “an error has occurred during processing of 1 result”

I then went to the locations listed above (which are installation files) and the scans showed no viruses but showed 19 files scanned for each. Where are the 202 files mentioned in the results?

I have another question:

When I looked at the Avast Program Log I found many of these:

Log errors

1196 AAVM - scanning error check file direct ex av file scan Real of C\Docum~1\ name \Local\Temp

Then I looked at the Event Viewer Avast Log and found a lot of Errors with 0000005. These seem to be for the admin and my limited user account.

What does this mean?

Also, usually the computer is in a limited user account - does that matter when running scans?

Thank you very much.

Sincerely, Libra
  1. Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
  2. Scanning at limited user account will be limited to Windows access to that particular file. Indeed, the admin account will scan deeper, and the boot time scanning also.

But, keep cool, both errors are more verbose of the logs than something to worry that much

Hi,

Thank you so much for your reply and explaining the “unable to scan” isn’t something to worry about.

I’ll run some scans from the admin account in the future.

Sincerely, Libra

You’re welcome Libra. Feel free to come back any time you need help or just to change experiences 8)
