Question

I’m running Avast 4.5. I got a couple of progs that installed on my pc, WebRebates and Time Synchronizer…are these prog that should NOT have been installed if I have Avast On-Access Scanner running? I also have A2 guard on too…
Thanks

lmw28if:
Avast! is an AV program.
WebRebates is Adware and Time Synchronizer is a utility for syncronizing your clock.
For adware you need a program like Ad-Aware or Spybot SD.
Hope that helps.

Many Time Synchronizers come with ad-/spyware.

OK…I have both progs…if/when I run these will they remove the progs? Should they not prevent or not.
Thanks for your help

Ad-Aware PRO comes with Ad-Watch. It’s not available in the free version.
Both of these programs are scanners and help to delete Adware after the fact.
Spybot SD comes with Tea-Timer and it monitors your system for changes.

How often do you suggest running a full scan and spybot and ad aware…is there a general guideline?
Thanks,

IMW,

I would suggest that you download and install both SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (runs resident).
Both are effective at preventing spyware/malware from getting into your computer. They are freeware.

If you run Adaware and Spybot once a week, you should be ok, but spyware can invade every time you connect to the net!

Avast and A2 get along just fine.

I usually run ALL “anti” programs once a week including Avast. Update signature or definition databases before running the latest scan.

And many don’t and are good applications, for instance, Time Synchronizer

It’s a freeware like Techie said.

I suggest you run ad-aware or spybot once a week.
Better if you have SpywareBlaster resident and TeaTimer like Techie said.

IMW,

Keep in mind as a general rule…
Avast gets along with most things and if it does not, it will let you know in the scan!

;D

Another good free “clean” time-synch utility is WebTime, available at http://www.gregorybraun.com/WebTime.html

No spyware connected with this one either, or at least not that anything or anyone’s ever found.
