Question

Is there a way to make avast! home edition scan for viruses everytime windows starts up? Kind of like a boot-time scan but everytime you start windows.

avast already scans a number of files when you start windows, open your Resident Scanners window (left click the avast icon) and select the Standard Shield provider, check the total number of scanned files.

Open it as soon as you can and you will get an idea of the files it scans.

The boot-time scan is only available on a one time schedule for NT based OS and is generally only used to remove stubborn virus infection before windows starts.

Are you using Windows XP? Like David said:
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.

ashQuick.exe could be set to scan memory and startup items. You’ll find more at FAQ on my signature
