Question.

Hi web forum members,

I have to again stress the fact, that I think everything that you like to install should be aptly scanned with an anti-malware product, because again I found postings of trojan infections or worms in legitimate software on Cd’s that come with PC magazines. The posting about TR Grobot 1 is an example.
How do the other forum members feel about this advice, can they second it??? I like to hear ye all visions.

kindest regards from,

polonus

I agree with you.I’ve seen myself such cases

Allways have avast running when I insert magazine cd’s in my drive and scan on demand before loading files.

I completely agree with you.

I just have a real-life story about a minute ago, I got a 128 MB CompactFlash from my friend, it has contained so many pictures taken from his holiday trip. A CompactFlash has been plugged into my machine but before it got opened, as always, I scanned it with avast! Explorer Extension although it’s just a CompactFlash with full of beautiful pictures that seem to be no harm but I was amazed, avast! told me she found 3 files as a virus/worm in that CompactFlash so all malware were moved to Chest easily.

One of them is Win32:Wukill-B [Wrm] that I think it has been spreading since 2003 and it is still ITW until now, another is VBS/Soraci virus. All malware have hidden attribute so I think standard shield shouldn’t see them unless you do an on-demand scanning as I did.

I think this CompactFlash has been plugged into so many laptops/destops and got infected by a virus/worm somewhere before it brought to me, if I didn’t do an on-demand scanning so a virus/worm will be sent to many people at my office on tomorrow, what if they have no antivirus protection or they don’t do an on-demand scanning?

Although my real-life story does not directly correlate to a CDs that come with PC magazines but I think it should give some idea.

And as always, avast! does her jobs very well to protect me in the real world.

I Agree too…

I agree too ;D
I have one story too. I had a virus in my Motherboard CD. Yes it’s true :o
In the beginning I tough that it’s false positive, but after scanning with jotti I found out that it’s a real virus.
What would you say about that ;D

I don’t insert magazine cd’s… I just read the magazine and if there’s any software i like i just download it.

Hi folks,

Your response to my question is much appreciated. Because it will show to others reading here that they should not take anything for granted what comes in bits and bytes. Do not trust one thing until proof of safety is given should be our motto always. Those that are not likely to give in to malware of any sort should be ALWAYS ON THE ALERT.

kindest regards,
