I have only had Avast Free for a few days after having a clumsy carthorse and resource hogging, work stopping and interrupting updating AV for many years. No prizes for guessing what AV this was.

I really am delighted with Avast, it is so efficient and does its job without my even knowing it is there. It updates without my knowing it does it. I am now reasonably familiar with it, but cannot find the Quarantine. I have done a few scans, but they all came up clean.

If or when something is Quarantined, I need to see it so that I can assess it and if need be restore it.

YES, I removed every item of the old AV, using their removing tool and my own seach which found 320 items still there. All gone now every trace.

I find the captcha`s too difficult to read. Thanks, I can see Quarantine now.

To prevent problems, make sure that any previous installed av is completely removed.
And no, removing through control panel is not doing it.

It is an anti-spam function to help stop spam bots - it has to be hard to be effective - unfortunately it effects everyone and not just spam bots, but it is only for the first 3 posts.

OK Eddy, I`ll come clean - it was AVG and I did use their Removal Tool.
It still left 329 items on my PC which my search picked up. I deleted the lot and am now completely clear of anything AVG.

You may just as well do it right

You may have to run the registry cleaning a few times till nothing more is found.

Eddy, you were right. I ran CC and found lots of AVG remnants in the Registry - gone now.

I dunno about you Eddy, but I have a total dislike for people who want to clean up my PC. I accept a bit of guidance from these good Samaritans and I do use CC a lot, but as for cleaning up my PC, I have an infallible program for doing it - called ME !

Another question.

Avast Online Security extension - Chrome.

This extension is disabled every time I close my Chrome browser. I have to enable it each time I open Chrome. When enabled it puts a green icon on the toolbar.

I have looked evrywhere, but cannot find a reason.

Any ideas ?

Thanks everybody, but I have found out what is happening myself.

I use Sandboxie and the enabling of this extension plus blocking of tracking cookies does not stick when doing it within Sandboxie.

If I open Chrome unsandboxed, enable the extension and select blocking of tracking cookies, it does stick. When I close my browser and then reopen with Sandboxie, the selection is as I chose in the unsandboxed Chrome, completely unchanged. No more disabling on browser closure or changing my blocking tracking cookies to allowed. Life is sweet.

Well, waddaya know - pure magic eh ?.

I do hope it does help others who use Sandboxie.
Sandboxie is rather restrictive for updates and changes. Chrome or any other browser for instance cannot be updated within Sandboxie.You have to watch it and it can be easily overlooked when some updating or changes are made which then develop problems.

It seems and quite rightly so, that any program that has some external to browser component influence must be dealt with outside Sandboxie. I have hit this a few times, but it is so easy to forget Sandboxie`s behaviour. There is no general rule, some things can be updated within Sandboxie, it is illogical to the user, but not to Sandboxie.

Most Chrome extensions are totally confined to Chrome and updates or changes remain fixed. But Avast is an external program with an extension within Chrome. Therefore although changes remain OK within a session, they are disabled on browser closure, since they have not had permission to exit the sandbox.

I only thought of it as a last resort to my memory and previous experience.
