I learned from the forum that Avast pushes out program updates 12 hours after the green-light go ahead for users with their setting on Automatic or Ask When Update is Available. And than I think it is reminders every 4 hours after that, correct? Note that I have the free version of 5.0.
But what I don’t think we talked about was the update pattern, where suppose that the Beta that is out now, (5.0.590) gets pushed out to Automatic Updates or the Ask Notification. So we get the new program update notice 12 hours later and 4 hours afterwards. But let’s say that a user for whatever reason says, "I want to wait for about an extra week just to make sure that the new 5.0.590 build is OK by reading and checking up about it at the forum. Would users still get the generally speaking twice a day definition updates, where it would say, “Virus Database has been updated.” Or would you not even get the database updates until updating to the latest build?
What’s the pattern for Program update reminders if set to ask and choosing to wait? Does this interfere with the twice a day database notices? (assuming the definitions updates is kept to automatic-the default, and program updates is kept to “ask when update is available” (the default.)
Well 12 hours is a minimum and is a figure that can be changed and I believe that also related to the update cycle (unlike the old 7 day cycle for program updates in 4.8.)
As far as every 4 hours after that goes, if a program update is released and you are in the 12 hour cycle, I would presume it would take the reminder figure from what you have the Update check duration set to. Whilst the default is 4 hours it can be lowered I have mine on 2 hours. So if your assumption is correct then it would be every 2 hours or whatever your personal settings are.
The database updates are separate from program updates and would continue as normal. The difference being if there is a program update available it normally download virus definitions & engine updates if they are available.
Sorry for the stupid question, but I have Avast5 now and want to know if it scans for updates when I turn on my computer in the morning? How can I tell if it does?

I will check when you turn on the computer and it detect connection…you will se the ball spinning
then it will check every 240min (default setting) if you dont turn off the comp…
