questions about new Avast7

I have used Avast! free Anti-virus for years with appreciation for the fine protection you have given. I liked the fact that you would ‘disconnect’ me from a suspicious site. You have caught viruses before they contaminated my computer.
I do not understand this new version 7.0.1426 at all and find it cumbersome, annoying and hard to explain to the number of people that I have installed and monitored the program on their machines.
What happened to the ease and simplicity of use and the less invasive look of the Avast Screen?
What reason did you have for dumping Google Chrome on machines that I have set to automatically update versions because the users are not capable of manual updating?
What is the ‘cloud services’ and why do I need to know that this is part of your program?
Why is it a GOOD thing in your opinion to see the green bars that tell how many people thought the site I am looking at is good? You are tracking who is looking at what. I didn’t need it before, and why do I need it now?
Today I ran a full scan. It said ther is no pathway to or they failed at:
alwilsoftware.…\algo.dll; ASWSamnbs.dll; asucmnos.dll ; asufidb.dll ; asurys.dll; and asuscan.dll. (the spelling of these files may be way bad, sorry-I was trying to write fast before they might have disappeared) What does this mean? Why is there no log file that I ran that scan or the couple of boot scans as well today? WHY do I have ‘connect to an account’? What is THAT? I didn’t have to do that before. Why do I have to choose to do that or not? Is that why there is no log file? I wasn’t connected to something or other that I didn’t know I should be for it to work right. Didn’t have to do that on earlier versions! I have only one computer/digital device in my house…what do I have to connect to? ???
I don’t like all this stuff that you have thrown my direction, I do not understand how to use, or IF I need to use it or WHEN. Please help me and others with a better understanding. I feel like I’ve been betrayed!!!

have you opened the help file in top right corner ?

if you dont want webrep....dont install it.... http://download.cnet.com/2300-2023_4-10006821-10.html

Some quick information here also http://www.avast.com/en-au/free-antivirus-download#tab3

As for the pathway problem i think it may have been better for you to have done a clean install of avast since going from version 4 to 7 is quite a jump, read here http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility on how to perform a clean install.
Download and save the removal tool then reboot into safe mode ( tap f8 while starting the system ) once in safe mode navigate to where you downloaded the tool and open, use the drop down to select the version of avast you are removing- start with version 4 and when completed re-run the tool again for other versions if installed, when completed reboot your system back to normal mode and reinstall avast 7.0.1426.

Thanks craigb,
I didn’t go from Avast 4 to Avast 7. I have kept up with each and every new program version since 2006. I always re-registered and have faithfully run Avast! every week or ten days. I will continue to try to understand this vs. 7.0.1426 which I last updated about February 26, 2012 from 7.0.1407. The time before that was a program update on December 4th or 5th, 2011.
During this time Avast alerted to suspicious hidden object C:\windows\sfloppy.sys Root kit when Avast said to run a boot time scan which I did. Another web site for ink was blocked by Aavast on 2-2-12 and on 3-17-12 Avast found an infected file, (install Earthlink.exe) Again Avast said to run a boot scan. I did, The problem that I saw today was way different because of the information concerning the pathways that I described. AND because there is no log file from either the full scan or the boot scans. I just don’t understand.

Today I ran a full scan. It said ther is no pathway to or they failed at: alwilsoftware\...\algo.dll; ASWSamnbs.dll; asucmnos.dll ; asufidb.dll ; asurys.dll; and asuscan.dll.
i guess avast reported a error.. something like could not find the files ? and these seems to belong to avast.....did they all begin with alwilsoftware ?

files that can not be found error is usually gone if you reboot and scan again…
and it sometimes happen if you scan at the same time as avast have done a cleanup in definitions folder

Thank you Pondus, and craigb,
I decided to run another scan after I “connect to my account” . While I was trying to find the username and password for that newly created account March 17, I looked again at the log files and to my embarrassment, :-[ I found that if proceeded down the list (that was not visible to me) the scan records appeared. The first was the full scan and its note is that ‘some files could not be scanned.’ They are the ones that I listed in my first post. The second scan, the boot time scan said “no virus found”.
So, I guess my fears are not grounded as I presented them. But, could you please explain about the “connect to my account” …what am I connecting to and why???
Thanks again.

hope this explains it

Thanks Pondus,
Guess I don’t need the account yet 8)… if I get a lap top as well as this old desktop, I will need it.
I think too that I’m ok not uninstalling and doing a fresh install of 7.0.1426, right?

When you asked Pondus if all the files began with alwilsoftware? No, they were as each was written before each semicolon.
Not relevant at this point, but I didn’t mean to disrespect your asking. :frowning:
