Questions about the New version 1.0.1590

  1. during the first beta, I commented that Avast did not make a distinction between sdcard as internal memory and sdcard as the one we plug in (on my tablet designated as sdcard2 under android 3.2, don’t blame the messenger). Appears to me sdcard in Avast refers only to internal memory sdcard because when I removed the card, the SDcard scan proceeded happily and definitely was not scanning the external card because the quickly flashing-by filenames simply aren’t there.

  2. When a brand new avast is downloaded, it begins with AntiTheft installation. Ouch. I almost started that. Yes, it does permit later to go to the normal Settings screen. I did not like the way it started. Because AntiTheft is definitely something I’m not installing. A new user might mess up their non-phone tablet badly.

  3. Is using Dr.Web Lite our only option to get a log of scans we’ve been asking for?

    and others

  4. Still no indication that when an application is updating it’s scanned - related to #3 above.

  1. Tablets are still not supported. If you leave the SD card in, does the virus scanner scan it? There should be distinction between various SD cards in this version (meaning there should be something like “Scanning SD card #1” and “Scanning SD card #2” if you have more than one available).

  2. I though it begins with the EULA and Community IQ. Why mess up? You can uninstall it from the application Settings later, can’t you?

  3. Right now the log contains of information from last scan done. You will have to wait if you want a more detailed log from the application

  4. Elevated this issue a bit.

Got a task for you, cooby! Could you start a Market download and then expand the notification are on your tablet and see if avast! takes any action upon completion of the installation? I agree the notifications on tablet are kinda weird, but if I expand the notification area, I can see avast! scanning the newly installed/updated app.

I have to retract item#1 - When I put in a larger file set on external card and asked avast to scan sdcard, I saw on the screen “scanning sdcard 1/2” followed by long scan of “sdcard 2/2”. HURRAY!

Filip, I have no idea how to “expand notification area” - will try to google it out. Yesterday I was installing (not yet updating) something almost 20meg, and I think, there flashed a “scanning” avast message at installation time. Will watch how update of that file works later - but it sure would help if we simply had a log

EDITED: I just collected logcat while doing updates to two small applications - it’s a log made by OS Monitor from the market. Plain text file. What to look for there?

I’m not sure I use proper tablet words  What I did was that I clicked on the are where clocks and notification icon is - a larger notification bar popped up with avast! notification saying “avast! is protecting you”. Then I went to the Market and started to install something big (like 10MB) and immediately “expanded” the notification bar. What I saw was the progress of app download and installation and after that the avast! notification changed for a quick while saying “Scanning app” or something like that.

Unfortunately you won’t see anything in the logcat because (as a nice application) we don’t flood the device log with our own info like some other apps do. Logcats are useful when developing an application and debugging it (it contains crash information put there by system when your app crashes etc).

ok. I practice: Notification area/bar is not expanding. Just the “avast is protecting you” when I tap it. But when I wait too long (3 sec) or click Market, avast shrinks back to an icon. So I can’t watch it expanded.

I know initial installation is scanned having seen it in action few times on long files, as you just did. At issue is are we scanning when I want to update? Anyway I shall try. I have to wait until market tells me there’s an update to one of the bigger ones, 10-14meg, that I just put in yesterday.

I checked and it scans both newly installed and updated apps, just the notification is bugged a it. Maybe Toshiba changed the UI a bit making it even more broken in your case.

Thank you. Great news. Subject closed, other than a log would sure help and if you’re sick and tired of me whining about no log, ask the code writers to put it in

I’m the code writer  It’s just that there are a lot of features we would like to do and not enough time to do them all quickly
