quicktime removal

??? Will someone please tell me how to un-install quicktime? I cannot find it anywhere (NOT IN ADD REMOVE PROGS EITHER). Not even highjack can find it. I tried to reinstall it but I keep getting a message that a newer version is already installed. I have Win XP.

Also could someone please give me at least one address of any person responsible for sending picture spam so that I may commit atrocious acts on them?

:frowning:

Hi tanzanos,

Here is the info you need:

polonus

thank you Polonus but when I say I cannot find it anywhere I mean anywhere including add remove programs.

You might just have some orphaned registry entries that make it look like QuickTime is still installed. Running a registry cleaner may fix the problem.

???
I am stumped!

Although I tried various registry cleaners. Nothing!

I need help here guys!

Any ideas?

Look in C:\Windows\system32\ for

QuickTime.qts
QuickTimeVR.qtx

If they’re there, change the extensions to .old and reboot. Try reinstalling.

If this solves the problem and everything else still works OK the renamed files can be deleted later.

A google search returns many hits, not all good, http://www.google.com/search?q=manual+uninstall+quicktime.

Check the last post in this thread, http://forum.worldstart.com/printthread.php?t=65812.

Open the Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) and look for qttask and terminate it then try installing the latest version found here:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

If it still will not install then make sure you have also removed the apple software update program from your computer

EDIT: In the future post all Mac/iPod/Quicktime related questions in the general forum because thats where I read posts

A big thank you guys!!!

success at last!

Glad We could help

Good to here that it is resolved, which option worked for you?

This really helped me out. The converting names to .old did the trick. You guys are awesome. Now if you could figure out how to get itunes songs to play on new windows media player 11, then i would worship you. lol

thanks again

encryptedngs are encrpyted using FiarPlay and will only play in iTunes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FairPlay

Each Music store (iTunes, Rhapsody, URGE, the Zune marketplace) has a Diffrent DRM encryption that is why they do not play in other software. Even songs bought from Microsoft’s own Zune Marketplace will not play in WMP due to the DRM

This is why so many people are against DRM (I am one of them)
