Hi, I have quite some questions related to Avast (and some not):
How can I completely disable Avast sandbox and Webrep (I use Sandboxie so I don’t need Avast’s sandbox)?
Should I disable Windows Defender or and other Windows 7 software to prevent clashes with Avast (I’m a new Windows 7 user)?
When I formatted and fresh-installed Windows 7 on my VAIO laptop my touchpad didn’t work (and it still doesn’t, no matter if I install the drivers or anything). I’ve read that it should work during the Windows installation already, but it didn’t. It worket perfectly before the formatting and fresh install. Any ideas?
I’d like to transfer some data from my old desktop PC to my new laptop. A friend lent me a eSATA cable and SATA/eSATA adapter. How should I connect the old SATA HDD to my laptop’s eSATA port to prevent any malware (I think I don’t have any - but anyway) escaping to my new laptop?
AutoSandbox (a security tool of avast 6) depends on the sandbox (on demand). You should keep it there.
You can uninstall WebRep from avast interface or Control Panel.
No, avast is compatible with WD.
Generally, there are drivers (updates) for the touchpad in the Vaio webpage for your computer model specifically.
Personally I wouldn’t disable the auto-sandbox (it really is totally different to sandboxie, which isn’t proactive). But it is possible to do so in the File System Shield, Expert settings, auto-sandbox section, see image.
I would suggest that you leave it enabled, but set it to Ask rather than Auto so that you have the final say in what action to take.
I have a doubt: if you uninstall the sandbox, won’t the autosandbox be disabled/non-present also?
In other words, is the sandbox (on demand) a necessary part of avast to run the autosandbox (on access by file shield)?
There is nothing about uninstalling the Sandbox in my reply (though that was what Bellzemos asked), just unchecking the Enable auto-sandbox and Bellzemos is also using the free version which doesn’t have the Sandbox to uninstall.
Unless your doubt/question is unrelated to the free version.
So there’s no way to disable Avast’s sandbox - I just want to disable that pop-up when it asks if I want to run some program in a sandbox or normally?
Which settings have to be set differently in Windows Defender to make it work nice with Avast?
I’ve tried everything with the touchpad, it doesn’t work, no way. But nevermind, I’m OK with using a mouse.
Another question for all the Windows 7 users: do you use the Classic Shell? It makes 7 more like XP, I’ve installed it and I like it. I just hope it’s safe to use, ie. it won’t ruin my files etc.
I don’t know about you but I got very used to the XP and am a little lost in 7 so I’d like to make it look and work more like the good ol’ XP. Another question: W7 has a new firewall built in. How should I set it when it asks for the profile (home/work/public)? I live in a house as a tenant and have an already routed UTP cable in my room (if I connect it to my PC it already works, no router needed). I don’t know who else also uses this network since there are several apartments in this house. So would it be safe if I set the W7 firewall profile to “home” or should I set it to “public”? Also, are the default W7 Firewall settings OK/safe or should I change something? I’m not too familiar with firewalls. Please answer my previous questions too. Thank you very much, your help is very appreciated!
I got Windows & because it’s far better than XP.
I learned the new things available in Win 7.
It’s much better to learn what’s new then trying to make something old out of something new.
Can this be later changed to “home profile” and vice versa? What exactly do I gain/lose with enabling the public profile over the home profile?
David, I only now saw your screenshot and am able to disable the autosandboxing in Avast. Before I didn’t log in and didn’t see the picture. Thank you!
And about the XP vs 7 - I find the new Windows Explorer limited in functionality compared to the XP one (which wasn’t perfect but was better than the 7 one, for me at least), same goes for the start menu. I’m happy with the Classic Shell addon.
Do you guys have any idea what could be wrong with my touchpad? It worked excellent before I formatted the HDD and made a fresh install of Windows 7. I tried everything, installing drivers, uninstalling, changing them, enabling, disabling, changing power settings etc. - but with no success. Today I will format my HDD again and make a fresh install of the system but I have a feeling that the touchpad won’t work. And it’s 99% not a hardware problem. Do you know what else could I try?
