Random BSODs on startup caused by Avast

So, it has been determined that Avast was causing assorted BSODs on startup while loading drivers. I am not sure completely why. I did have a dump analyzed by a tech at Win7 forums, and since leaving Avast uninstalled I have had no problems. Errors usually related to IRQL problems, ntfs.sys or kernel crashing, usually related to out of range memory addressing. Is there anything I can do with Avast to get it stable? Is there a cleanup utility to scrub everything Avast-related off my pc to start fresh?
