Re: Another problem with booting and stopping at aswrvrt.sys

I posted a reply in another thread, but should have started a new one. I am also having this same problem. I downloaded FRST and Aswclear to a pen drive, but when i try to run i get error message “The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present.”.I dont have another pc at my disposal until tomorrow, only a tablet. If i could get files from the tablet or cell to the pc, possibly i could download others today.

How do i get one of these files to run? My only Recovery image does not work and i dont really want to do a factory reset.

What operating system do you have i.e XP, Vista or 7 and is it 32 or 64bit

Win7 Premium home. Not sure if 32 or 64. Can i check this without being able to boot?

Do you have your windows CD handy ? Or in the safe mode menu is there the option “repair my computer”

I dont have a windows cd. The repair option is available, but returns the message that it cant repair the pc. I run a disk test from the boot options and it says the hard drive fails the test and to replace the hard drive. From command prompt, drive c contains no files. Drive x has the files. Drive d is the backup and it appears to have all its files.

The hard drive is highly suspect then, the data on D drive is that your factory reinstall partition ?

Yes, it is. I am online on my cell now and able to work on this problem. Downloading apps will be a problem for a while, but I am at m my pc.

OK lets see if we can do the following

Download to a USB

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

From the safe mode menu click command prompt
At the command prompt type the following :

notepad and press Enter.
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
Select “Computer” and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter (or FRST.exe if 32bit)
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach it to your reply.

Ok. Thanks for the help so far. I forgot to refresh this page, so I just read your reply. I will need to access another pc in a few hours to download the file. Any others I need to get? I have Aswclear and FRST.
I cant boot to safe mode, but I can get to a command prompt. When I try to run one of those progs I get a “subsystem needed to support the image type is not present” error msg. So I may have the same problem with Farbar.

FRST is designed to run from the recovery console, download bot the 32 and 64 bit versions one of them will run you just need to try both

Ok. Will do soon. I got another pc (used) and am configuring it, so will be online soon.

FRST64 did open. I ok the disclaimer and the prog goes to the next screen and freezes! The mouse works. The Scan and Fix buttons are dark blue and the Search File(s) button is a lighter blue. Nothing I click on works, even the minimize or close buttons. I’ve restarted and tried again with the same result. Damn. Any ideas?

Ahh. The close button must have worked. I am back at the command prompt. Awaiting instructions …

I guess I’m expecting the pc to work fast like I’m used to. The FRST.txt has completed.

I’ll modify this post when I can attach it.

The log is posted.

This will disable Avast but I do not feel it is the problem.

Before you run the FRST fix then do the following first

From repair my computer run the command prompt
Type in the following command and press enter :

chkdsk C: /r

If you are still unable to boot then :

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST as before and press fix
Try a reboot on completion

I ran the fix. It still hung on reboot. I rebooted in safe mode and it is hanging on c:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\disk.sys.

Attached is the fixlog.

I am afraid that it is a windows problem and not related to Avast (I did not believe it was)

You will need to reinstall the system I am afraid. Do you have a backup or image ?

I should have an image on the D drive. Can I recover from there? I also have an external with a backup, but the recovery option doesnt appear to work. Can you advise? I am at work for the next 7 hours, so I can try when I get home.

What programme did you use to make the image ? Also what is the make and model of your computer

I thought the backup on D: was created by Windows. ?? I bought a 1TB external and did a backup with Memeo, but then decided not to get a paid subscription for a backup service app and thought Windows could backup to that drive, but have had problems doing backups since. Maybe if I reformat the drive?

I run on a Compaq CQ60-615DX notebook. Win 7. In the command prompt I can get to it has me on drive X: and says the Windows version is 6.1.7600.

When I ran chkdsk it didn’t finish. It ran quick through the first 259,599 files, but ran very slow after, reporting that files 259,600 through 259,607 were unreadable. It stayed on 259,607 for over an hour so I powered down.

This indicates a corruption on the hard drive. I would recommend a re-install of windows, if that fails then you may need a new hard drive
