RE: Firewall and Bot Protection, both 32 and 64 bit

Just wanted to ask a question and maybe suggest an added feature to all forms of Avast. I have a 64 bit system, Windows 7 Pro. I know Trend Micro has an application called RUBotted that alerts someone if there is a bot on their system, but it is limited to only 32 bit systems. Does Avast protect us from “bots”? Either thru the firewall or real-time shields? If it doesn’t…is there a way that functionality can be added? Also, regarding the firewall…is there a way to set it so that rather than just the home, work, or public options, there is a setting between work and public…to more greatly enchance Avast’s ability to prevent hackers, especially after the recent wave of hacking that has been going on? I ask this because I sometimes do freelance work for a company…nothing serious…3D animation work…but they recently asked, because of the recent hacking incidents, to do all we can to strengthen whatever protections we may have on our home computers…especially email correspondences. Also, I sometimes use Zimbra Desktop for my email…is there a way to set the email setting in Avast for using Zimbra Desktop that I am currently unaware of? Any advice on these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

avast is an antimalware tool and it detects botnets. Both the firewall and real time shields use the behavior/heuristic analysis to discover malware activity in the computer.
The home/work/public settings are just about sharing services between the local network. You’re always protected against hacker, even in the ‘home’ level.
I never heard about Zimbra, but if it is an email program it will be scanned by Mail Shield, if it is a webmail tool, it will be scanned by Web Shield (if it does not use https).

Thanks Tech! Will double-check on Zimbra’s Desktop’s port settings to make sure if it is https or not. My ISP uses it’s web version for web access to its email client. I can access my email using either my web browser or the Desktop Client. But want to make sure it gets scanned as it should.
