Anyone?? essexboy?
Should I try using the fixes that are attached for other people or are they specific to their computers?
I can’t boot up at all - it just goes to windows recovery and I don’t have a windows 7 disk…
Please help!
Sorry we missed you. What happened prior to the failure to boot ?
After this fix could you try start up repair two or three times
Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix
then try a reboot
Thanks for your help essex, I really appreciate it.
Prior to the failure I can’t remember anything out of the ordinary but I’m pretty sure there were some avast updates.
When I start up, it doesn’t boot and goes straight to windows recovery, I don’t have the windows 7 disk so have been looking for options.
Sometimes I can get it start to boot in safe mode and can see that it freezes on aswrvrt.sys
Sometimes it goes into startup repair and just sits their for hours ‘repairing’
I got a little impatient and used the reatogo startup thing from a cd, found the aswrvrt.sys file and deleted it, I also used the avast uninstall utility (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) from a usb in an attempt to get rid of avast and see if that helped but it doesn’t seem to have helped…
I’ll try the fixlist that you attached now and will give startup repair a few goes…
Thanks essex, you’re a legend.
Used the fixlist and had to let startup repair have a couple of goes but I left it repairing overnight and I’m back in.
Not sure how to avoid this happening in the future though…have created a system restore disk - was it likely that avast caused the problem?
I do not believe so as this is a common(ish) problem with windows if Avast is not installed it will stop on classpnp.sys and that has been going since XP first come out
As for the cause it is unknown and there are about five ways to repair it and ten that don’t
Glad you are back up and running though
