Re scanning a false positive, what to do?

Hi. being new to Avast 4.7 Home addition, a scan picked up a false positive (I’m sure of whom I downloaded it from), and used 4 online scanners to verify
it. 1) Kaspersky
2) BitDefender
3) House Call
4)Windows One Care Which all came up negative.

My question is, how can I scan w/o it being ‘‘flagged’’ again? Looking at some of the posts, this is as close as I came to the answer:

From a post by DavidR http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=30242.0

If it is indeed a false positive, add it to the exclusions lists (Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add and Program Settings, Exclusions) and Restore it to its original location, periodically check it (scan it in the chest), there should still be a copy in the chest even though you restored it to the original location. When it is no longer detected then you can also remove it from the Standard Shield and Program Settings, exclusions.
Also see False Positives, how to report it to avast! and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.

I’m fine up to the point where I can’t find the Add and Programs Settings tab, where am I going wrong? :-\

Thanks for your help.

For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…

For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…

You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.

To know if a file is a false positive, please submit it to JOTTI or VirusTotal and let us know the result. If it is indeed a false positive, send it in a password protected zip to virus@avast.com
Please, mention in the body of the message why you think it is a false positive and the password used. Thanks.
VirusTotal and Jotti both have file size limits 10 and 15MB each.

See images.

Thank you for the help, that took care of it, job well done. The Virus Total scanner showed no other confirmation of a virus, except Avast (I stopped it after about 28 companies scanned). I will send it to Avast, to get a “look see”. Thanks again, for the excellent response time you all gave!

P.S. Tech, nice links at the bottom of your post, “List of Compatible Software”, looks like a good resource.

No problem, welcome to the forums.

Stick around and browse the forums, especially the sticky topics at the top of each of the forums, not to mention the avast help file. They provide a wealth of information to help you get the best from avast.

Thanks for the welcome, DavidR  By the way, how do I disable my direct email address from under my profile?

You can see it but we can’t.
I can’t see the point in displaying it in your own posts, I mentioned this when the previous upgrade to the forums software was introduced.

You’re welcome. Feel free to ask for help if you need.

Also … come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Your welcome.
