I am curious as to how many here use this software for their online musical needs. Is it a good program?
I don’t know anything about Rhapsody, but my past experience with Real player is not so great. I consider it bloated, slows the system down, installs itself deep and tries to “take over” most elements of any media application, and can be difficult to uninstall.
It is one of the first few things I disable or remove with any new Windows installation.
On the rare occasions I want to play a file formatted for this player, I use Real Alternative instead.
Thank you Tarq57 for your reply. I too have had Real and Rhapsody years ago and thought that perhaps they have improved it…but looks like not. What is this “Real Alternative” and where can I find it, please?
Real Alternative 2.0.1 on SOFTPEDIA:

I dropped RealPlayer ages ago … the adware etc. was a nuisance, of course, but the determining factor was when it suddenly started having problems reading and playing midi files, of which I have hundreds. Win’s Media Player handled them just fine, as did Winamp when I later added that, so I decided there was no longer any excuse for keeping Real.
It’s very rare that I run into something that uses Real’s proprietary format, and now that I’m on broadband I can usually find the same thing in MP3.
Exactly MikeBCda. I agree. Too bad that REAL has to be such a snot.
before, I used it a lot. By that time I had Norton Internet Security on my computer. Norton detected Trojan: Win32/Tempo during download. But I think it was because of another infection already installed on my computer. If your interest is to download videos from internet, I suggest you use firefox with the addon VideoDownloadHelper. If format question, I suggest you download Windows Essential codec pack for windows media player.
Hi Llanziel,
I use the FF addon “DownloadHelper”…really nice addon. Mainly I use it when I’m on YT and would like to keep a copy of a video I really like, on my own computer. Then I use Moyea FLV Player to watch them with anytime I want without having to go on the internet site. Nice!
Thanks for the info.
I gave up on Real Player years ago but I have never tried Rhapsody.
I have tried Real Player before, but it’s not good and has adware.
I have never tried Rhapsody.
I use Klite codec pack to enable windows media player to play most media files included real media files.
I also use gomplayer in case I am lazy to modify the codec.
