Just upgraded to 5.0.418 this morning. When I rebooted, the Avast icon in the tray shows an ‘alert’.
Upon opening the UI, I get the message “Attention. Your system is not fully protected. Please use the Fix Now button to start fully protecting your system.” However, there is no action whatsoever when I click on this button.
Same with the Real-time shields “Turn On” button - no action.
Interestingly though, in the Real-Time Shields section of the UI, it shows the File System & Web Shields Protection Status “Running”. Also, my PC’s Services utility shows the avast! Antivirus and avast! Web Scanner services as running. These are actually the main 2 I need.
So my question is, are the Resident Scanners actually running, or not?
That’s funny… I know it is annoying, but I’d recommend a repair installation (via control panel > add/remove software) and a subsequent reboot.
IMHO this should fix the problem.
Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
Tried a repair as suggested, and now Avast is totally unsecured - big red X in system tray. Clicks on Fix Now, Turn On are futile, and get an error when trying to start services manually.
Should I go back to 4.8? Everything was so smooth…
