Everything I like to watch online (PBS, C-Span, the occasional You Tube or DailyMotion clip) uses Flash or Windows Media Player. I pulled RealPlayer as to me it was pretty much useless and I didn’t need it.
I held onto Real for a while (have long since dumped it, of course) only because for some reason Media Player started for having problems with midi files while they still played fine in Real. These days I use WinAmp for virtually all media.
I never bothered with the Real alternative, since I haven’t run into Real-specific formats in ages. My son thinks, and it’s a reasonable guess, that those are rapidly becoming obsolete as Real scares more and more people away.
I binned real player when the only way to disable it from starting was to rename the realsched file. I like to be in charge of what starts on my system
Will any of these alternatives play rtsp and mms? I listen to live streaming media eveyday. Here is one of the live streaming media links I listen to everyday: mms://206.192.61.163/sonlife
If anyone cares to try my link to let me know if it will work in their choices of alternative players, please let me know if it works in which player. Thank you.
I’m good with Windows Media Player and don’t need Real player at all. Already used it but you’v got to decide wether to keep Microsoft’s bundled software or else. Thanks for letting me know anyway, Polonus!
I have got no problem with RA becoming obsolete, i always check updates. I know if RP have got an update, the same day i have the new version of RA. Uninstall old version and install new.
I use K-Lite Codec pack with QTA, RA and MPC, and i never had problems.
For audio files i prefer AIMP2
I downloaded Windows Media Player 11, now mms://206.192.61.163/sonlife works in JetAudio.
Evidently JetAudio works like RealPlayer in that it doesn’t really play mms:// links, it’s like a front end for WMP. JetAudio probably plays other things directly.
