Received alert - system not in endless reboot

Using Avast Pro - received an alert and then system rebooted.
Now whenever pc is turned on it is in endless boot. Using XP pro
Any help appreciated

What was the alert, file name, location and malware name ?

Can you boot into safe mode ?
