It says: Dear user, your avast! antivirus will expire soon. Avast! antivirus has been protecting your PC and data for nearly a year totally free. Your copy will expire in 30 days.
However, my (free) Avast! expiration date is 27/03/2013 @3:24:12 pm.
Check your my avast account https://my.avast.com and see what is listed there on the Devices as that is where the information is retained that triggers the reminder email.
Thanks DavidR. As far as I remember I never signed up for a my avast account. So I tried to register now several times but there is a server error every time. Will try again, see what happens and if successful will post.
I just succeeded in registering on my avast to get an account. There it says that the expiration date is Mar 27, 2013 so that’s the correct date.
I really don’t remember if I ever registered avast on the avast web site since my memory doesn’t serve me very well anymore. Must guess that I did because otherwise how would avast have sent me a wrong expiration date? Strange thing is that I purchased a new PC (Win 7) last December and an IT tech transferred info etc. from XP to Win 7 but he installed Avast fresh on Win 7 at that time. Had to uninstall and reinstall Avast last March 27, 2012. Now not sure if some Avast info from XP got transferred or if Avast just picked a random date of expiration due to non-registration. Who knows what exactly happened.
Hopefully with registering tonite the free Avast on my avast, all will be solved. I will have to keep a close eye on it for the next month or seeing if I will get any more emails from Avast?
Thank you so very much DavidR!!
PS: In the Devices there is only 1 expiration date shown and it is the correct date.
