Received message from info@global.avast.com is it SPAM?

You give no info so how can we tell

I don’t open suspicious messages, it was asking if I wanted to continue using avast free but it’s the email address that’s important, is this an avast email or phishing?

I have never ever had an email from Avast asking about continued use of Avast Free AV.
Only Avast team can say if the reply email address for bogus or true, but I think you are right to be suspicious of the email and delete it.

What email client are you using ?

Some will allow you to investigate/view the email header information without actually opening the email.

I use Thunderbird and if I Right Click on the email at the bottom of the list I have an option to Sleuth It (a Thunderbird Add-on). This effectively copies the content (in text mode) in a new email that you can investigate to see the header information and see if the sender location is legit.

EDIT: I know this is an old add-on and no longer available (there may well be other such add-ons), but I just use it to be able to quickly view the headers and content in plain text mode.
I rarely get any emails from avast.com.

i received the same email (from info@global.avast.com) saying i hadn’t logged into my avast account for a while so i took a screen shot of it and tweeted it to Avast and asked them is it them or spam and they replied and said yes it is them.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and the clarification.

Yes tweet, but who is info@global.avast.com…from…from…I forget what was in the header, some strange cz mail server, but it looked very suspicious to me. And as OP stated, most obvious way is to confirm email addy. I can not do that. Not saying you are wrong but whoever info@global.avast.com is, or is not, what has it to do with someone using unsupported WinXP Pro, and old unsupported Avast Free version 11.2.something with 304 days of service left since last expiration notice? When it expired it took a few weeks for it to fix itself.

I deleted the email. They wanted to add ad support plus other info recommendations?

Why ask me? I no longer have ad support, I didn’t stop them…and they refused any logon attempt I ever tried after support time expired, and they claimed it was no longer necessary.

Let us know how your update goes.
Too late for me, I deleted it.

Avast HQ is in the Czech Republic

The tweet (sent by legomanlister) would have been to the Avast address on twitter (https://twitter.com/avast_antivirus?lang=en) and would essentially be answered by someone at Avast.

XP is still supported in the fact that it is still getting virus definition updates, but currently the last supported program version of avast for XP/Vista is 18.8.xxxx. As you can see from my signature below my posts one of my systems is XP Pro SP3 (and has CPU support for the SSE2 Instruction set).

Since I haven’t received this email I can’t check the IP address and do a reverse IP check to confirm the location.

I looked at the header but really couldn’t tell much other than the return was a long list of letters and or numbers@bouncemailclient or similar.

Very vague and confusing email.

And if you chose not to reply to info@global.avast.com…goodbye!

Hello? What?

If it is real, what is the point of the email? Goodbye to what?

Time will tell…

If you read legomanlister’s post Reply #5 which I quoted in my last post, having not used your avast account for some time.

If you aren’t using it or Avast antivirus, I guess they are saying goodbye to you if you are no longer using avast.
