Recent Avast update is blocking my use of Eudora

9/03/09 Avast Home –
There was an Avast update today and after it installed I have been unable to download my mail with Eudora.
I was getting the message in Eudora, “connection closed by foreign host”

But when I turned off the “on access protection” in Avast, my mail came in just fine as usual.
Of course, turning off the On Access Protection starts the Windows security shield poppin up on my task bar.

so what up and how do I fix it?

Just a quick update:
Stopping only “Internet Mail Protection Provider” from the taskbar icon is enough to allow the mail to download in Eudore.
Just pausing the “Internet Mail Protection Provider” does not do the job.

Which is your firewall?
Which is your email provider, I mean, @what?
Does is use secure connection, SSL or TSL?

Standard Windows XP Home firewall.
My email provider is ICDsoft where my web business has been hosted for years.
I am not new at this so a sudden change is noticable.

The setting in Eudora is “If available use StarTTLS” it has just always been the default setting.
Other secure socket choices= never, required (alternate port), required StarTTLS

Also set to “Allow Authentication” when sending.

Not much else I can change that seems to be relevant

In the back of my mind:
There have been a lot of recent maleware/trojan attacks on our home computers and great effort put into cleaning them up with Malewarebytes, SUPER Antispyware, IObit Advanced SystemCare, AMUST registry cleaner.
The cleanups have appeared to be successful but we never know for sure. Avast has been our first line of defense.
Are any of these known troublemakers to you?

There is also another oddity where the little Windows “no firewall” red shield pops on and off just before the wireless network successfull logs on to the home router. This is a new occrrance. It takes about a second and results in the firewall being turned on ok.

Is that XP SP3 Home?
