recent update

I recently received an online notice from Avast that I was eligible for a free update. I agreed to the update, but immediately, a number of negative things happened to my computer. Whenever I boot up, I now get a notification that my firewall is turned off, but when I click on the place to turn it on, it tells me that it isn’t possible to turn it on.

When I go to the “images” section of a search, on engines such as Google and Yahoo, all I get is a blank page. If I click in the midst of the blank page, I do get a photo, as I would if I had actually clicked on a photo, but I can’t go rambling around, guessing at what the images are.

Is there some way we could get this to work?

Do a repair of avast via add/remove. If it doesn’t solve it, then do these.

  1. Uninstall avast via add/remove and follow the instructions.
  2. Download and run the avast uninstall utility in normal mode and it will ask you that this tool will automatically run your computer in safe mode, click yes and follow the instructions.
  3. Download and install a fresh clean version of avast and follow the instructions. Once it get installed, avast will do a quick start up scan. When the scan is finished, do a manual reboot of your computer. After rebooting, register your copy of avast.

Don’t forget to reboot after running a repair.

If you still have a problem, try disabling https scanning.
