Recovery from a major virus disaster

Recovery from Mhtplo-8 [Trj].

Through this trojan/virus my system.dat file got corrupted as well as the files from where to restore it the cab.files. At last the virus resided in the cmos. I was left with a blue screen of terror, because parts of necessary system.files lacked.

What did I do to recover ???, I burned an image file from those parts of my files I wanted to save. Formatted the twardiel (e.g. the hard disk), reinstalled a clean OS and reinstalled the drivers, reinstalled the programmes and a new version of Avast, which caught this devil for me in the first place (but what a nasty one this was). I made a copy of my driver programs, and put a restore it programme ontop of the bios driver, so I can always go back after a crash or virus infection. Are there a lot of people that had to go to such drastic measures to recover from such a major calamity.

Greetz and Thanx AVAST,

POLONUS

No the virus did not. It was on your harddisk. (I could be wrong but it looks like you don't even know what the cmos is.)

Only thing you had to do was removing this infection and than do a repair/restore of the OS.
And perhaps also repair/reinstall a application.
That would have solved the problem without too much trouble.
