I searched the forums and there was no mention of this ransomware. I think I got it on my computer at work and they will have to wipe and reload it. My question is, I have Avast on my home PC, so does Avast protect against that specific virus?

hey and welcome to the forum tbsmith i suggest you follow this guide and post the needed logs from mbam,frst+addation and let a malware expert have a look at your system before you cross that bridge to reinstall

As you say yourself, it is ransomware.
That means it is not a virus.
It is a upgraded version of the CBT locker malware.

Keep in mind that avast is not only using signatures to detect things but also a lot of other techniques.
avast is currently working on a tool to prevent cryptoware.
How far in the development they are is something only avast knows.
If I a guess, I would say somewhere around 75%.
