When this red circle is present, does this mean that the program is not protecting my machine?
I just know that avast icon will either in blue color or blue with a red slash(Means Your Not Protected).
Yes
Are you using any other antivirus in this machine? Did you use in the past?
Thank you.
i have had other AV programs but they and all traces of them are gone. Or so I thought!
What was the other AV as some are real pigs to get rid of ?
Hi i have the same problem Avast is not working it shows this red circle and i can´t use it, Start on Access is grayed out and the status is Inactive and when i click on the start bottom nothing happens. Can´t also initiate the AV it gives a error saying “cannot load configuration”.
Can’t update the Virus DB it gives me a “access denied” error and also can’t update the program, i’m using the latest 4.8 but i though it was some corruption on avast that could be solved by updating but nothing happens when i click on the update bottom, it is dead.
Only by going to windows safe mode was i able to uninstall avast, as the disable avast self defense bottom didn’t worked. Them i installed it again but it still don’t work. Can you help me solve this problem please. :-[
As Tech and DavidR wrote above, what was the last installed AV prior to Avast? (Or, at any time prior.)
If you’re sure that there isn’t another antivirus in this computer and all were correctly uninstalled before, I’ll suggest an installation from the scratch:
- Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
- Boot.
- Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
- Boot.
- Install again the latest avast! version.
- Boot.
- Check and post the results.
The AV program used was Bell Sympatico’s AV (from the Bell Telephone supplier-Bell Canada). Good program, but then they issued an update and things went bad right away. Even Bell could not fix.
I have uninstalled Avast and reinstalled once already, using the method recommended by Avast. No luck.
I will do this again this evening and report back to you all here.
You must make absolutely sure that the Bell Sympatico AV is completely gone before installing Avast again.
Do a file and registry search for Bell or Sympatico or any other term that might be part of that program.
