Red error box during VPS/iAVS update

I’m having the exact same problem when I do my manual updates.

Information about current update:
Last encountered error: Another instance of setup is already running. Please wait until it finishes and then try to run it again.

Total time: 15 s

  • Vps: Updated
(previous version: 071114-0, updated version: 071115-0)

Server: download951.avast.com (74.86.125.44)
Downloaded files: 6 (3.47 KB)
Download time: 6 s

When I check the logs, under Warnings, it says this:

In the log, it says Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x2000000A, dwRes is 2000000A.

According to Avast’s about box, I do have the latest version of the VPS, so what does the error message mean? Am I or am I not getting my updates?

That error can occur if you invoke a manual update while auto update is running and hasn’t finished yet. It just means that there are 2 instances of setup.exe avast.setup running at the same time.

With the time difference I don’t know if you are up to date or not. The version you posted, 071115-0, is the version for Nov, 15, 2007. It shows that it updated from the previous version. The current version is 071116-0, created Friday, Nov 16 2007.

Just a note, avast will check for and update automaticaly at startup, depending on your settings. If you do a manual update right after startup, you will probably get the error.

Short note, it means two instances of avast.setup not setup.exe, still two updates going on.

Thanks DavidR

I have corrected the post.

I have my Avast set to only manually update.

I ran the manual update today with no error messages.

Well, I’m at a loss as to why there would be 2 avast.setups running if it’s set manual. Unless you clicked twice.

But it seems to have worked this time. Keep us posted.

I certainly shall.

Addendum: I received the red error box with the “setup is already running” thing, but the update continued without a hitch other than that.

Two avast.setups running are always two update processes running.
You can asked it too or the first crashed and wasn’t killed (i.e., kept running).

I only have it set for manual updates. How can it be running at update if I didn’t set it to?

Double clicking…
avast checks if there is an available connection each 40 seconds.
If there isn’t, wait more 40 seconds to check. Checking does not take more than one second and, of course, does not use the Internet band.
If there is a connection, check for an update. If there is not any new file to download, wait 4 hours to start checking again. If there is an available update, start it and install it. Again, wait 4 hours to check the next time.
Some of this settings could be configurated different, I posted the default values of the avast4.ini file.
