Every now and then I get a pop up that says:
The last attempt to update your virus definitions was unsuccessful.
To ensure you are protected from the latest threats, try to
update now.
When I click on Update Now, it says I am already up to date.
Not really a problem, but annoying.

So you don’t like it when I pop-up once and a while ???
Just a wild idea : Open the Avast! GUI and choose : Settings - Updates - and under ‘Update Parameters’ check ‘My computer is permanently connected to the internet’.

If what Rednose suggested doesn’t work.
Try a repair of avast. Windows Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You may need to reboot after the repair. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.
