Hi! I am trying to help a friend of mine with her redirection problem. I know just enough about puters to get into trouble.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is the HijackThis log contained in the text file attachment. Thanks!
You need to run Hijack This! in normal mode.
I assume that by normal mode that means not safe mode?
I have run it in normal mode and it doesn’t tick (or check, for Americans) the bad items to be removed.
The “Send Log to Trendmicro” analysis button doesn’t seem to be working - maybe the internet sending is being disabled by the problem.
The online Hijack scan is being being blocked by what ever is causing the problem (a virus or trojan - I’m not sure.)
Can anyone tell by the log I have provided where the problem lies. Thanks again!
Nothing obvious in the log provided.
You could try these free virus scanners:
DrWeb CureIT!
Kaspersky Virus removal Tool
Then try these free adware/spyware scanners. Download, install and update.
SUPERAntiSpyware Free
Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
When you have finished, check for out-of-date and insecure software and update- this will reduce the risk of similar infections.
Secunia Online Software Inspector (OSI)
Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI)
Thanks, I’ll give them a try and get back to you. Thanks again!
Thanks FreewheelinFrank, you’re a prince - I’m now virus free :).
The first one that I was able to run wasSUPERAntiSpyware, and it found what it called rootkit.agent, and the other softwares you recommended were very useful and found other evil objects as well.
The problem was blocking updates to AVG virus scanner and would not allow Spybot S&D to open, but everything seems to be functioning well now. Thanks again!
Are you using AVG and asking for help on avast forums ???
Yes, we know just how helpful the AVG forums are
Palcsi might be using avast but remember he is helping a friend who is not using avast.
Is there an Anti-Virus that I should replace her AVG with?
Yes your on the support forums for it avast! ;D
Preparation:
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you install.
AVG8 Remover, download tool from here, http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-tools there is a 32bit and 64 bit windows version, ensure you use the correct one. If you have only AVG7 then you shouldn’t need this as I believe it is only for the later AVG8.
Then ensure you are off line, uninstall AVG using add remove programs and reboot. Now install avast.
I feel so silly asking the last question I did, having no idea that this was the site for an antivirus software. I just found it during a Google search, and now glad that I did. I’ll definitely download Avast to her computer, and mine. Thanks again guys for all the wonderful help.
If your friend is happy with AVG, that’s fine.
No problem, palcsi … you will not find a more helpful and friendly antivirus forum than this one.
If you have any other problem, do not hesitate to post for help.
Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.
Welcome to avast world
You’re welcome.
Of course there is no obligation to install avast, but we feel it is better (if a little biased ;D), but the think often forgotten is support when problems occur.
Support IS so important.
Crucial I think ;D
