Refund request

I subscribed to AVAST last year for $29.99, today a week after losing my job my subscription auto renewed at a cost of $79.99.
I have applied for a refund, and received confirmation that it is being processed - so my thanks for that.
I will have to wait for up to seven days for the funds to be returned (assuming that the refund has been approved, which reading the return email appears to be the case).
I did want to make the point that a vastly increased subscription fee is the very reason why people are so rightly suspicious of and reluctant to accept auto-renewal of subscriptions.
I (like most people) have a number of different devices, as do members of my family and had previously been satisfied with the cost and efficacy of your products.
I now feel rather burnt by the experience, and suggest that you reconsider your policy of automatically renewing subscriptions at vastly increased rates as it will no doubt leave many other customers as shocked and disappointed as I am, and as unlikely to look favorably on continuing to do business with you.

The problem being the initial subscription is heavily discounted, whilst auto renewal is the full price. I completely agree that it comes as somewhat a shock when hit with A) Auto renewal and B) full price no discount, not even a small renewal discount.

You don’t say which product you purchased or for how many PCs, etc. So it is hard to confirm what the price should be.

Having applied for the refund, I would also make sure that you have cancelled the auto renewal option.

Thanks for the response. My subscription was for AVAST Internet security for 1 PC.
I would have accepted a small increase, in line with increasing costs, inflation and so on - but $79.99 an increase of $50.00 seems extravagant.
It does make you rather wary of ever agreeing to an auto renewal. It is also rather more than the current value of the laptop being protected.

The $79.99 (if that is US$) renewal does seem high, certainly for one PC.

Some time ago when auto renewal wasn’t there, the user got a reminder in the program user interface (how many days left) and normally got a renewal discount. But this isn’t the case with auto-renewal and this is bad news for the customer but good news for the company. That said it is more likely to lose them that customer.

I have been using Avast Free for over 14 years and for me it is the biggest competitor for avast’s paid products.

Thanks David

Well it will most likely cost them this customer. i’m just hoping the refund comes through. Like you, I can find plenty of free or at least far, far cheaper alternatives.

You’re welcome.

If you don’t get a reply soon to your request for a refund, whatever you do don’t submit another support ticket as this can slow the process. Tickets are handled in a first in first out, multiple tickets would be collated and the FiFo countdown starts again. If this is the case, get back to this topic and post your support ticket ID Number and we will try to push it from here.

Many thanks David. Very much appreciated.

No problem, hopefully it won’t be necessary to push it.

Refund was approved and paid. Thanks for the advice, and thanks to Avast customer service

You’re welcome.
